NEWS & EVENTS
It's important for our students to recognize the far-reaching impact of service learning and the idea of giving back to our community. Our Leadership students packed 33 shoeboxes for local women in need, hoping to make Christmas a little brighter for some well-deserving women.
TRES Gives Back!
Sincere thanks to Robie Street's Burger King, Michelle MacLeod and Rabi Maharjan, for the donation of $476. Truro Elementary truly appreciates your support!
Additionally, Robie Street's KFC donated $731.00 collected from spare change and refundables to Truro Elementary's Breakfast Program! We so appreciate your generosity Anne Marie Hay and staff!
Such amazing community support!
We are always in need of volunteers for our Breakfast Program. We would like to have enough volunteers to allow a rotation schedule on a weekly basis. If you can volunteer as little as one morning a week, please contact the school at 902-896-5755. The Breakfast Program is open to all students in the school and is run in the cafeteria on a daily basis from 7:40 to 8:00 a.m.
Regular Parent Teacher Groups meetings are held at Truro Elementary' Learning Commons the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome. The PTG can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All volunteers in schools within our Centre for Education must complete a Volunteer Package, which includes a Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry form. This only needs to be done once. If you are not a current volunteer with CCRCE and would like to be added to our list, please contact the office to pick up a volunteer package.
Volunteering in our school
We are continuing to go ‘as paperless as possible’. We will be communicating as much as possible via PowerSchool, our school website and our Truro Elementary Facebook page, which is an information-only site run by the PTG. We will send our newsletter electronically so please ensure we have a current email address. If you do not have access to the internet, please indicate this on your updated registration form.

SHELTER BUDDIES READING PROGRAM - TRES AND COLCHESTER SPCA
As part of our school-wide Restorative Practices, we strive to provide opportunities for our students to give back to the community while further developing their character and caring nature. We have had the pleasure of starting up a Shelter Buddies Reading Program with our local Colchester SPCA. Students who work closely with Mrs. MacIntosh have been learning about Mindful Thinking and Ways of Being. As part of the program, students can work towards visiting the adoptables at the Colchester SPCA which helps socialize the animals to ready them for their forever homes while developing our students' empathetic skills and sense of calm.
The Pre-Primary program is voluntary and is open to all children who are at least four years old by December 31st, 2020 and live within school catchment. Children can only attend the Pre-Primary program for one year.
We are now accepting pre-registration for all sites for the Pre-Primary Program for September 2020. Children who are at least four (4) years old by December 31st, 2020 and live within the school's catchment area are eligible. Registration information is available here.
